Dear Andrea,
I grew up in Lonoke County and graduated from Cabot High School in 1973. The only drug store that I remembered was Whitley Drug Store. The owners names were H. A. "Chick" Whitely and wife, Frances. Chick was the pharmacist. I found the obituary for Elsie posted online under the Moore Cabot Family Funeral Home's website. Frances Whitley is included as a daughter in the obituary. Below is the obituary for Elsie Pruitt:
Elsie Mae Pruitt, 105, of Cabot died Sunday, January 1, 2006. Mrs. Pruitt was born December 31, 1900 in Paris, Illinois to the late Samuel D. and Anna Bristow Merkle. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Violet, Ruth, Ivy and Thelma as well as a granddaughter, Carol Ann Whitley. Mrs. Pruitt was a Deputy County Clerk in Travis County, Texas for 40 years. She was a member of the Secretaries Association in Austin, Texas and then worked in the Whitley Drug Store for 15 years. Mrs. Pruitt was also a member of Cabot United Methodist Church, the WSCS and the JOY Class at church.
Mrs. Pruitt is survived by one daughter, Frances Whitley of Cabot, one stepsister, Shirley Bowman of Torrance, California, three grandchildren Elizabeth Flores of Houston, Texas, Suzanne Langford of Cabot and Jerry Whitley of Cabot as well as six great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cabot Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 4th at 10:00 a.m. at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Cabot with Reverend Richard Lancaster and Reverend Scott Langford officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cabot United Methodist Church, 2003 South Pine Street, Cabot, AR 72023.
