The Lonoke County Museum will be having its Fourth Annual Fish Fry Fund Raiser on Friday, March 8, 2002 at the Lonoke Primary. This will between the hours of 5-7 with King Kat doing the preparation of the food. Tickets are still only $10 for adults with children through the age of 11 being only $7. Tickets are available at the door or from a LCM member. Liza Ashley, author of the famous cookbook Thirty Years at the Mansion, will be in attendance autographing and selling books. Ms. Ashley who has cooked for many of the former governors of Arkansas is a native of the community of Pettus. As Ms. Ashley stated, “I always like to come home to visit.” Earnest Best of Des Arc, who wrote Sharecropper’s Son about his life at Coy and Tomberlin in the 1920’s, will be a featured guest. Mr. Best, who is now 90 years young, currently is the author of a weekly column for three newspapers outside of Lonoke County. He will be on hand to visit with people as well as sell and autograph copies of his book. Charles Cunning formerly of Lonoke who resides in Hot Springs will also be a featured guest. Mr. Cunning, a 1958 graduate of Lonoke High, is a pharmacist as well as a writer and historian. He will have on hand copies of his recent book, Memories of Ward, Arkansas to sell and autograph. Bill Sayger from Prairie County, the author of Brasfield Remembered and other publications, will be present also. Mr. Sayger is currently actively involved with historical preservations. One of the most interesting artifacts to be on display will be a recently acquired copy of a 1927 map of Lonoke County showing all property owners, railroads, bayous, etc. for people to view. Other items relating to Lonoke County will also be on hand. This will be must attend for all Lonoke County historians. Everyone is invited.
