Mrs. Susie Holder, the oldest resident of Lawrence County, died Monday at 8:45 pm at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Holder was 101 and would have observed her 102nd birthday on Aug. 1. She was born in middle Tennessee and came to Arkansas with her parents as a youngster and was raised at Ash Flat. She was the widow of Babe Holder, who died in 1927. The Holders lived at Richwoods and Portia during most of their married life. She had made a home in Walnut Ridge for many years with her son, Robinson Holder and Mrs. Holder. She had been a Methodist for 80 years. In addition to her son, she leaves two stepsons, Mack Holder of Portia and Henry Holder of Dallas, TX: a sister, Mrs. Minnie Bryan of Los Angles, CA: a brother, Louis Dalton of Eloy, AZ, two grandchildren, and seven great granchildren. Until 1962, Mrs. Holder could thread a needle with ease, and never wore glasses. Until the last few months she was up and about each day and insisted on making her own bed each day. Funeral was yesterday afternoon at the chapel of Higginbotham Funeral Service with the Rev. H.J. Couchman officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park.
