Hi Sue,

The index of families lists Bennett, West, and Crowley, and mentions Crowley’s Ridge as a place.

“Tradition says that Moses Robertson, previously mentioned as one of the early settlers in the Spring River country, and Samuel Crowley, the first settler on Crowley’s Ridge, were companion bear hunters and often visited each other for the purpose. It is related of Robertson that forced unarmed and alone to fight a bear, he killed it with his fists. This is a good bear story, and goes Davy Crockett one better, since he killed his bear with a knife.” Etc.
