Hi, Carol, I have been puttering with genealogy for about two years, but much of it was random browsing. I only recently subscribed to the on-line census records at www.ancestry.com, and have started using Family Tree Maker software to help organize my data. I have traced my male Cupp family line in some detail back to 1784 in Pennsylvania, but have had very little success in tracing the female lines. I can read a little German from school and know that the double-s, written to look like "ps," is standard German, indicating a sharp, hissing "s", and is actually a separate character in the German alphabet. The terrible handwriting in some census records is bad enough without having to deal with old-fashioned German script. I once found the Cupp name indexed as "Creffe". I have sent an email to the Brennecke family website to see if anyone there has more information on Marcella Russell. John Cupp Notify Administrator about this message?
