Rosemary,
I’m not aware of any Ramsey-Sneed connection in my father’s Ramsey family, which has reported Augusta/Rockbridge County, Virginia, roots. His Ramsey great-great-grandparents (both born in Virginia) moved from North Carolina to Missouri, arriving in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri Territory, in 1818/1819.
My mother had connections to Independence County, Arkansas. Her maternal grandparents, William B.P. Jackson and Mary Jane (Lewallen) Jackson were living in 1880 in Black River Township, Independence County, as were Mary Jane’s parents, Monroe Washington Lewallen and Mary Ann (Wann) Lewallen. My parents met in Kansas City, Missouri, and married in my mother’s home town in Kansas.I’m not aware of any connection between their families before they married.
From census reports, I know there were at least two Sneed households -- one headed by a William Sneed -- in Gainsboro, Independence County, Arkansas, in 1880, as well as a goodly number of Ramsey households spread across several Independence County townships then.
I’m not a candidate for DNA testing, and am not in contact with any male Ramsey family members who would be.
I have a number of mystery men named John Ramsey in southeast Missouri I’m trying to sort out in connection with my father’s family there. As I root around in Arkansas in connection with my mother’s Lewallens and Jacksons, I’ll be on lookout for any Ramsey-Sneed information.
Sorry I can’t be of any more help.
Regards,
Clete
