I am interested in this story also concerning the Civil War and folks fleeing to IL.I have been much confused over the Harris Gilliam story for a long time, concerning his leaving for IL during the War and then returning to run off with his wife's sister.Much of my interest is because one of my ancestors in Independence County had a son named Harris Gilliam. However, he was NOT the Harris Gilliam who married Elizabeth Cochran. He was the son of Lucinda Gilliam-Severs who lived in Healing Springs, Independence County, AR during the 1860 census.I believe that he is the Harris Gilliam who married Cynthia Rackley (see Pope County 1850 marriage record) since Cyntha/Syntha/Cynthia can be found near Lucinda with several Gilliam children on the 1860 census record. She may be widowed since the Harris Gilliam who married Cyntha cannot be located on 1860 or later census records. However, the Harris Gilliam who married Elizabeth Cochran is found in TN in 1850 (while my Harris was in Pope and Van Buren County AR in 1850), the other Harris' father (Braddock Gilliam) received land in IL in 1854, Harris married Elizabeth Cochran in AR in 1857 (and had a younger sister born in AR as shown on 1860 census), and they are found in Hopkins County, TX with other Gilliams and Cochrans in 1860.I am curious...did they move back to AR and then flee to IL, and then back to AR and TX again? This whole story seems very confusing to me, and although I have now proven that THAT Harris is NOT the Harris Gilliam who is the son of Lucinda, I believe they MAY have been relatives.I also do not know what happened to the Harris Gilliam I was tracing since his last child with Cyntha was born in 1856 and I can find no sign of him after that--I suspect he may have died.Any help in sorting out the confusion would be welcome.Liz
