Seeking information on the CUMMINS family of Hempstead County, AR. James CUMMINS was the first to show up in the 1830 census. He was born in 1802 in probably Missouri Territory. He married about 1823 and died Oct 1852. He married Catherine NORRIS. She was born in 1805 and probably born in MO Territory. She may be the daughter of Thomas NORRIS, Sr. In 1837 James sells land to John W. NORRIS and in 1859 Catherine buys 160 acres in Hempstead Co the part that became Nevada Co. Their children (born between 1829-1848) are: Robert, James, William (mar Mary A. ANDREWS, Nancy Ann (mar Miller F. MITCHELL), John (mar Margaret B. SMITH), Thomas, Frances (mar William LANGLEY), Hester A. (mar Isaac Smith-Logan Co, AR), Henry, and Catherine.

James' brothers are William and Jefferson but they don't show up on the census until 1840. The NORRIS and CUMMINS may have come from New Madrid, Missouri.
