Albert L. Stuart b.1819-Litchfield,CT
Subject walked to Lawrence County in 1828. Hired out as a nine-year- old as a leather goods, and cobbler apprentice. Was encouraged to study law by old Ben Crowley. He went to Memphis, studied law, married, and established his law practice in Greensboro and Gainsville in 1841. Old Ben Crowley advised him to run for the legislature just before he died.Albert finally ran for State Rep and won.He served in 1850 from Greene County. After the Civil War, he and Capt. Ben H. Crowley became partnersin the law practice in Greensboro and Gainsville. He was kicked by a horse and died in 1876 leaving his wife Jane and several children. Need any and all information on the family of Albert. His parents unknown but most likely Col. William Stuart, the old pioneer guide for early settlers coming to Lawrence County. Possibly the old Col. Stuart was his grandfather.
The only known leather good man in the county early on was Rev. Issac Brookfield who was known to be a friend to the Crowley family.
Could Albert served his apprencticeship under this old Methodist preacher?
