I’m looking for information on J.C. (James Carroll) Gist, probably a brother of John Henry Gist. James’ second wife was Susan Eudora Harrell, a relation of mine and daughter of George P. Harrell and Susan M.A. DeBerry. J.C. and Susan married in Faulkner Co., Arkansas, on March 13, 1879; J.C. died in Faulkner Co. on November 26, 1890.

J. C. Gist, according to the 1880 census, was a grocer; Susan E. Harrell’s father, George P. Harrell, Jr., who died in 1866, was also a merchant and grocer and another child of his and his first wife Margaret Hendricks, John Henry Harrell, married Melissa Little (my gg grandparents) who’s father worked as a clerk in a store - all this in Cadron or Conway, Faulkner Co., Arkansas!

1880 Faulkner Co. Census
Gist, James C., W, M, 31, M, Retail Grocer, TN, KY, TN
Gist, Susan E., W, F, 18, Wife, M, Keeping House, AR, -, TN
Gist, Nancy E., W, F, 13, Dau, S, Attending School, TN, TN, TN
Gist, William D., W, M, 9, Son, S, Attending School, AR, TN, TN
Gist, John W (or M), W, M, 8, Son, S, Attending School, AR, TN, TN
Gist, Joanna, W, F, 4, Dau, AR, TN, TN
THE NEXT FAMILY LISTED IS John H. Gist…

Does anyone have the name of J.C.’s first wife and know when she died?
Anyone know if J.C. and John H. were brothers?
Anyone know where J.C. was in the 1870, 1860, 1850 census?
If so, who were their parents and where in Tennessee were they born?

Sincerely,

Tommie J. Clayton
