Hi: Need someone to help by checking 1840, 1850 1860 & 1870 census. I have done the 1880, and have reports of later years. Subject is Oliver Crosby GRAY (1831-1905) (s/o Dr. Robert GRAY of Havard & Lydia TUFTS), his wife Virginia LaFayette (Davis) GRAY (1834-1886), son Carl Raymond (1867-1939) and daughter Ethel (1871-????).They left Maine to come to Princeton, Dallas County, AR before civil war, supposedly to teach in a 'mlitary school' (??), have a child Clyde Leslie (1859-1861) buried in Princeton Cemetery and were both parents teaching at newly opened in 1872, Arkansas Idustrial University in Washington County, AR in 1880 census. We know he fought as a Confederate solider with 3rd Regiment, Arkansas Cavalary, but no details of rank. We would like to know; 1. when they arrived in AR, 2. what military school, 3. when they moved to Fayetteville, and 4. if there is a relationship with Joe GRAY, the party who in 1845 surveyed new town of Princeton? If this is available it would sum-up our families genealogy booklet for this line of GRAY's! Thank you, Bill Boggess Notify Administrator about this message?
