Any Information on Silas Fannin
My ancestor, Silas Fannin, with part of his family seemingly disappeared from their home in Butler District, Wayne County, West Virginia about 1887 (according to available public records). From Census information and death certificates of a couple of children of Silas, he was born in Kentucky about 1822. The first public record that I have for him was the 1842 Lawrence County, Kentucky Tax List. His wife was Mary “Polly” (Ferguson) Fannin.
Lack of records and trace after 1887 leads me to believe they left the state. Some descendants have suggested they may have gone to Buchanan County, Virginia. Others say possibly the tidewater region of Virginia. My research in the areas of Kentucky where other Fannins lived has turned up nothing on Silas.
The 1880 census listed Fannin households at Yocum in Carroll County: James F. and Susan Fannon. He was born about 1852 in Arkansas to Tennessee-born parents.Joseph and Rachel Fannon.Joseph was born about 1808 in Tennessee to Virginia-born parents. Thomas G. and Mina M. Fannon.Thomas was born about 1845 in Arkansas to Tennessee-born parents.
I’m asking that anyone who has done Fannin research or has an interest in Fannin or the place they lived, please check your records for a clue about Silas Fannin after 1887.I have tried to find information on his final years, date of death, and where buried for about thirty years now. If you find any references to Fannin in the 1820-1900 period in an early Carroll county history, I am interested. You may post any leads here or email me at [email protected] you.
