Betty,

I just recently come across this article:

Sacramento Daily Union, Volume 15, Number 2305 17 aug 1858, Page 6.

DETAILS OF THE ATLANTIC NEWS. FROM THE DIFFERENT STATES AND TERRITORIES - DATES TO JULY 21.

"Elihu D. Green of Bradley County, who was tried at a late term of the Circuit Court in Pine Bluff, for the killing of Whitesides and was acquitted, was shot afterwards near the spot where he killed Whitesides, by some person not known."

I do not have a definite date of the killing of Francis Marion Whitesides but I believe it was in 1855. He had about 8 siblings and his parents were Samuel Whitesides and Nancy Hogan.

I see that your posting is from 2002. I am curious to know if you have found out any further information as to why Elihu D. Green killed Francis Marion Whitesides. What were the circumstances behind the killing.

I believe that Elihu D. Green might be my ggg uncle. I descend from Gouldsberry W P Green; my ggg grandfather.
