Thank you very much! I believe I have a copy of the pages on Bellefonte from Judge Logan's book that I copied at the library on a research trip a few years back. Of course, at the time, I was concentrating on the "Wood" and "Bedford" families and the Sewell information probably didn't register. I will have to pull it out and re-read it. That is how I knew the Wood brothers owned the store there and were some of the original petitioners for the town. The "Mayor Sewell" was most likely A. F (Abuid Fairchild) Sewell as they are the only Sewells in Jefferson township (Bellefonte) in both the the 1860 and 1870 censuses. I will take your advice and contact the BCHM and see if I can get a copy of Virginia Stark's article from The Boone Co. Historian in 1983. I have been trying to ascertain what type of store the Wood Brothers owned. I read about a fire in 1872 and have been wondering if their store burned at that time. At some point prior to 1880, John Wood returned to Taney Co MO. Edward Wood was in Carrollton (Boone Co AR)in 1880 and returned to Taney Co MO ca 1882. John Wood went on to Indian Territory in the 1890's. Both brothers owned hotels. I've been unable as yet to determine what happened to Martha Wood Bedford and suspect she may have died or remarried while living in Bellefonte. Thanks!
