Surnames: Jackson, Wilson, Lewallen, Willey, Dieckgrafe, Smith, Bybee, McClane, Ramsey.
I recently found an obituary for William Washington Jackson, one of my mother's maternal uncles. It was in a box of papers and photographs my late mother had set aside for me.
I assume the obituary appeared in the Harrison Daily Times, but don't know for sure. It bears no date or newspaper's name.
The obituary was enclosed in a rememberance card from William Washington Jackson's funeral on 2 August 1974. I've typed that card's text in after the obituary. Both the obituary and the rememberance card have my grandmother's last name spelled wrong -- it was Dieckgrafe, not Dickgrafe. She outlived two husbands: Neal "Mac" Willey and George Dieckgrafe.
Like William Washington Jackson, my mother and maternal grandparents (Bessie and Mac Willey) were all born in or near Harrison.
William Washington Jackson was the son, grandson, and great-great grandson of Jackson men named William.

"Will W. Jackson, 89 Dies Here"
William Washington (Bill) Jackson, aged 89, of 602 south Hickory, a street commissioner in Harrison for more than a quarter of a century, died at his home Wednesday night, July 31 [1974].
A lifelong resident of Boone County, he was born at Harrison December 23, 1884, son of William Bailey and Mary Jane Lewallen Jackson.
Beginning in 1938, Mr. Jackson served more than 25 years as street commissioner. He was named by the mayor and city council to construct the baseball field, later known as Wheeler Stadium, adjacent to the radio station on U.S. 62-65 north. Always interested in sports, Mr. Jackson supervised every phase in the construction of the field.
In earlier years, he was superintendent of construction of several bridges over the state—his first job included a steel structure across Crooked Creek south on Highway 7. He supervised construction of the span across Crooked Creek on U.S. 62 at Pyatt and near Morrilton, one over Overcup and the other across Point Remove. From these two bridge jobs, he moved to Pope county, where 11 bridges were completed, 10 between the Boston Mountains and Russellville and Clarksville. For 2½ years he was agent for Magnolia Petroleum Co.
He was a member of the first Presbyterian Church and a Mason.
He was married to Margaret Mae Wilson October 27, 1906.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Belle Wilson of Harrison; a brother, Ross Jackson of Carthage, Mo.; three sisters, Bess Dickgrafe [Dieckgrafe; my grandmother] and Josephine Smith of Ft. Scott, Kan., Frances Bybee of Raytown, Mo.; a foster daughter, Mrs. Jean McClane of Odessa, Tex.; two grandchildren, Dr. Robert F. Wilson and Dr. Joe Bill Wilson, both of Harrison; nine [great-]grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two sons, Edward Wilson Jackson, at infancy in 1908 and Frank E. Jackson, Sr., in 1965 and a grandson, Frank E. Jackson, Jr.
Funeral sevices will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Holt Memorial Chapel by Rev. Russell Skorburg with burial in Maplewood Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Luther Smith, Tom Bill Rogers, Tom Wacaster, Lewie Watkins, Lester Parker and Paul Bennett.
The family requests contributions be made to a memorial fund.

Was born at Harrison December 23, 1884 a son of William Bailey and Mary Jane Lewallen Jackson. He passed away at his home in Harrison after an extended illness July 31, 1974 at the age of 89. Mr. Jackson was a retired Street Commissioner and was a lifetime resident of Boone County. He was married to Margaret Mae Wilson October 27, 1906. He is survived by, his wife of the home, 1 daughter, Mary Belle Wilson of Harrison, a foster daughter, Mrs. Joan McClane of Odessa, Texas, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Frank Jackson of Harrison, 1 brother, Ross Jackson of Carthage, Mo., 3 sisters, Bess Dickgrafe and Josephine Smith of Ft. Scott, Kan., Frances Bybee of Raytown, Mo., also 2 grandsons, Dr. Robert and Dr. Joe Bill Wilson of Harrison, 9 great-grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and many relatives and friends who mourn his passing. Two sons, Frank E. Jackson and Edward Wilson Jackson preceded him in death. Mr. Jackson was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was a Mason.

William Washington Jackson's parents, Tennessee-born William B. P. Jackson and Arkansas-born Mary Jane (Lewallen) Jackson, are buried at Maplewood Cemetery, as are a number of his Jackson kin. My maternal grandfather, Mac Willey, is buried there too, as is Mac's young son, Kenneth William Willey.
