Joe,

According to the information that Ian Appling told to my mom - there were three brothers that came to the colonies in late 1600's. I believe they were Richard, Thomas, William (or John) Aplin. One remained, our ancestor Richard. The other two returned to England. He died shortly after his brothers returned to England, unknown to the rest of the family because he is named in his father's will.

As far as Appling in New York go, my dad has always said that we weren't related to any Appling's "up north". I am guessing that any Appling's that were New York came after our Richard. All are related, but its pretty far back.

You can check with Ian Appling, he now lives in England. He has done massive amounts of work on this family. You can also check with Jesse K. Appling in Texas. Jesse has visited with Ian and been to the home place. Jesse has posted a message in this forum and I posted Ian's e-mail somewhere on the forum also. I understand that Ian just got married. He was in the process of writing a book on the family. I had heard that we are probably of Norman descent. We ended up in Wales/England when William the Conqueror invaded.

I'm sorry if this sounds kind of vague, but I have been working on so many lines that I am starting to get some confused. Some are so similar that its scary! I hope that this info is correct. If you hear something else, please let me know and correct this message.

Have A Happy New Year!!

Karen
