It is my understanding that Appling, Georgia, the town, was named for the Family of Colonel Daniel Appling. Daniel was a hero of the War of 1812, but not from New York. He is a nephew of my ancestor, Richard Appling. There is also an Appling County, Georgia, but I don't think Appling township is in that county. I am not exactly sure who the county was named for, but always thought it was named for Daniel and his family. Daniel was never married and left no children, but evidently his parents and siblings were well known and they were a prominant family. I will see if I can find my references on this. I am not sure if I made copies or not.

Take Care - Karen
