William and Karen,
I have the same info about Samuel Appling in my Family Tree Civil War Muster Roll. Unfortunately it doesn't say Samuel Burwell Appling. I know many of Joel's (his brother)sons fought so it stands to reason he did as well. If for no other reason to defend homeland and family.
I have some corrected info on Joel. He was born Sept 2 1809 in Fayette Co., AL. He died April 23 1888 in DeSoto Co., MS and is buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Pleasant Hill Ms.
He married Clara (Clary) Ann Robertson (B. Nov 9 1812 Fayette Co., Al. D. June 22 1882 DeSoto Co.,MS) Nov. 12,1833 in Tuscaloosa Co., AL. They moved to DeSoto Co., about 1839-1840. They had 9 children one of which is my Great Grandfather Joel Francis.
