My great-grandfather, Edwin Orin Salisbury, was born on 20 July 1829 or 1830. His father was one of the Reuben Salisburys. Reuben died when Edwin was about 10 or 12 and Edwin started working on ships to help support his family. The tombstone of his first wife, Susan Alice Jordan, buried in Trenton, ME reads "wife of Capt. E. O. Salisbury."
When I checked the Mystic Seaport online records, several ships come up with the name of E. Salisbury as captain. The Sam'l A. Appleton is one of several, but the time period looks right for my Edwin.
That's all I know, other than Edwin eventually followed his son, Charles E. Salisbury (b. Ellsworth), to the Nashville, TN area, where Edwin eventually died. He's buried there in Spring Hill Cemetery in Madison, TN.
Sorry, that's all I know. If you can add anything, I'd sure appreciate it.
