There was a Francis M. Appleby who was first married to Elvira Standley on May 11, 1851 in Carroll County, Missouri. He served in the civil war in Company K, 23 Missouri Reg. Vol Inf. and lost an arm in battle, probably Shiloh.
I am glad you told me about the likely second marriage because that tells me what became of Elvira Appleby (died by 1886). She is the sister of my ancestor and I had always wanted to know about when she died.
Unfortunately I do not know anything of his second wife.
