Hi Martin...My Appel name is a shot in the dark because only clue to my Grandfather Schalck's sister is her name, Marie (Mary in American), born 1842 in Uhlwiller, Alsace France and died in Fosterburg in 1869. I cannot find her burial place. "She was married to a farmer." I have visited the Alton area and Fosterburg cemetery and find all record were lost in fires or storms. Your Appel was in the area at the time, that seems to be the only connection. Good luck with your research and if you come across the name Schalck, give me a "heads-up", thanks, Jean
