Odd entry in the Michigan Volunteer:
"Appel, John (Veteran) enlisted in Company K, New York Lincoln Cavalry, Aug. 12, 1861 at Grand Rapids, for 3 years, age 36 (b. 1825)"...... A John Appel 57 appears in the Federal census in Grand Rapids [Michigan] with Josephine in 1910 and 1920. Josephine might be a second wife. She might have been Josephine Rostomily. It seems there might be several John Appels mixed together.
