Dear Linda,
Sorry I didn't see this earlier. You asked about family circumstances for Thomas Antram. Thomas was born c.1607 near Salisbury, Wiltshire (it may have been Wilton if memory serves). Antram was his adopted name:his grandfather was taken from Ireland from his birth parents (the form of debt repayment authorized by mary I of England), taken to England and made an indentured servant for a Mr. Antram in Wiltshire. Antram adopted Thomas' grandfather (name unknown) and two other children. By the time Thomas left for Massachusetts, he had an indentured servant of his own. Thomas was a weaver, and a Quaker. He came to MS with his wife, Jane Batten, Jane's parents and siblings, to form the first Quaker meeting in the New World, in Salem. Thomas' sons were Quaker lay preachers in NJ. Later, Thomas' descendants married Quakers who came over from England, whom their family had known.
Ed (also Thomas' descendant)
