Dear Betty
I have copy of census, for which many thanks.
My mother was actually born in 1900 and although after she was adopted by her aunt her surname was was changed to Hicken, I am not sure if her christian name was changed also and if it was Joan when she was born into the Anthony family.Itwill be fun trying to find out. However I am almost convinced she was Jack's sister.
Do you have such a thing as an email address for the Carmarthen Census office?
I have happy memories of Perth. But my husband Iain and I were there as long ago as 1974.We went to Adelaide for 7 months whilst my husband was was supervising a team he had put there to plan a new town north of Adelaide, it was to be called Monato.I think they shelved his original plans because they found the river there was "toxic".However I believe something has been built since.
We went to Perth for two weeks to meetup with the then Minister of Police, Transport and one other office I cannot remember. His name was Ray O'Connall and I always remember he said to me "if it moves then I am Minister of it!"We had some pretty wild nights out with him, he enjoyed showing us his favourite wines and insisting that we drank them - often. He drove us,after one such night at the International Hotel in Perth-I forget its name - to his ranch some forty miles away.He wanted to show us his horse operating theater that he had just had built!.He drove even though he had had too much to drink and it was just after he had been on television saying to the viewers "you must not drink and drive!"I remember quite a lot about that trip to Australia even though it was so long ago.Perhaps I should have written a book?
Best wishes
Joyce
