Francis M. Anthony of Rutherford Co., TN, had died in 1836, for in December of that year, my ancestor James Manees, executor of his estate, deeded some of Francis' land to his surviving brother Zephiniah Anthony, who soon afterward moved first to Switzerland Co., IN, and then Bartholemew Co., IN, where his descendants survive to this day.James Manees had married Elizabeth Matilda Anthony, their sister.John Anthony, Jr., apparently had only 3 children.County Ct minutes from 1812 show John Anthony and wife in a dispute with Owen Edward and wife. But who was John Jr.'s wife? She does not appear in early TN marriage lisings, but she married John by 1800 when Elizabeth was born in TN.Does anyone know her maiden name or even personal name? John Jr. was the son of John Anthony of Caswell Co., NC, formerly of Hanover Co., and Ursley Jones, d. of Richard Jones of Louisa County, VA.(Richard's ancestors are in question, though his sons' names, James, Wm, David, Richard, Thomas, all correspond to Anglicized names popular with recent Welsh immigrants.) John Anthony Sr. was a son of James Anthony and Mary (Jennings?)of Hanover, later Albemarle Co., VA, where they ran a trading post.James was a son of Mark Anthony of New Kent County.
