From a trip to the New Valley Church, Loudoun Co., this afternoon I can say several things about Leonard Ansell, his children, and thie mates and in-laws. At the New Valley Church, about a mile from my ggg-grandfather Martin Fry's home and Bethel Church where he is buried built across from the home by his son David W. Fry in 1859, I finally found his mother's grave: " "SACRED In a marriage records, in Revolutionary War and pension records, and in court records her husbands name is "Nicholas" Frey/Frye/Fry. Yet on her tombstone she (or her children) had it recorded as "John N." Why? Because he was the son "Johann Nicholas" born to Jacob Frey (1711-85) in Frederick Co., MD, and who came to Loudoun Co., where his father died, after serving in the 4th Maryland (Continental Line---"The German Battalion") in the war. "Marriages of Loudoun County, Virginia, 1757-1853," Mary Alice Wertz, 1985: p.4 Ansel, Peter, son of Leonhard Ansel & Elisabeth Freyin, dau. of Nicolaus Frey. By license. m. 13 Aug. 1793. ParReg A. p.52 Fry, Nicholas & Margaret Ansell. m. 11 March 1794. Littlejohn. p.53 Frye, Nicholas & Margaret Ansell. John Erskins attests bride's age. Richard W. John, bm. 11 March 1794. According to these records Nicholas Fry's daughter (by a previous wife) Elisabeth married Peter Ansell his future wife's brother so that he became both Peter's father-in-law and brother-in-law. Could you pass on any further info you have Leonard Ansell or his ancestors? Once I've digested the info I've gotten in hand on these folk and on my wife's family I'm going to post my info on the World Family Tree (probably within the week).
