History of an oil painting and ANNOOT
In the sale in England of Geh. the Honorable Edward P. Lygon , deceased , on May 11 , 1875
the lot 153 was "Mignard , Mademoiselle de Fontanges with Cupid" and it was sold to "ANNOOT" for £ 18.7.6. ( handwritten minutes of the auction sale ) . The painting is now in France .
Has an ANNOOT belonging to your family been resident in England at that time ? Could he have been interested in paintings ( personnally or professionnally - eg arts broker, expert , dealer - ) and in the affirmative , do you know of any sale of his belongings which may help to trace the history of the painting between England at the beg of the XIXth century ( where it is well documentated ) and France ( where it is first documentated at an auction sale of Mrs Joseph THORS deceased on June 13 1929) . Many thanks in advance for any comment .
Best regards,
P. Verkhovskoy
