Huguenot Connection?

The stories in my family related to my ggrandfather Daniel Annis ALWAYS indicated that his family was French Huguenot. In reviewing the messages on the forum, I have not seen anything that indicated a French connection. However, today I found a reference in the Huguenot Society publication that lists Annis as one of the surnames in the Huguenot settlement of Manakintowne, the largest in Virginia, which was founded in 1700. They defined Huguenots as French Protestant refugees. Has anyone else had a Huguenot reference in their family?
