Katharine,
I too, have often wondered if my Alfred wasn't also the Alfred found in MO. I don't know when my Alfred was born or died. But first marrying in or around 1820 he would have been born ca 1800. A census must have told me that he was born in KY, but VA also included KY at one time. ??

Married:
1. Sarah Green - 25 Mar 1820 Richmond, Henrico Co, VA. She was the d/o Lewis Green.
She had a sister Ann Green who married Fleming Moseley on 19 Feb 1822 in Henrico Co, VA. She was the mother of:

a.Lewis Angle born 7 Jan 1823 in Lynchburg
and died 20 Mar 1878 in Barry, Pike Co, IL
b. Joseph A. Angle born ca 1825

2. unk Crumpton, born possibly ca 1808 in
Tazewell Co, VA. Married ca 1829 in Lynchburg.
She had the following children:
a. Nancy Angle born 7 Jan 1830 Lynchburg, VA
and died 17 Jun 1922 Baylis, Pike Co, IL
(My ggrandmother)She married Chris C. Davenport 1840 in Richmond, VA. [Source: 1880 census of Pike Co, IL]

The other two marriages could very well fit right in time wise.

We do know when Lewis was born. He was born 7 jan 1823 in Lynchburg. He died 19 Mar 1878 in Barry, Pike Co, IL. Married 19 Jul 1852 in Pike Co, IL. Married Harriet E. Crandall, d/o Joshua Green Crandall and Fannie Burdick.
He went to St. Louis, MO at the age of 14 (1841 then to Hannibal MO till 1846. Then to Barry, IL. He had an Aunt Jessica Green who lived in . Louis. Believe she died ca 1872. Who was Joseph Green? His pastor was Rev. William Green. Are these relatives? In 1852 he joined the Barry Baptist church. Wife Harriet was born in Berlin, Rensselaer Co, NY.

That is all the info I have. I got my info from an old Pike Co, IL book. The book had one of those old pencil sketches of Lewis. My father was born in Baylis, Pike Co, IL. So, I've been there many times. Hope this helps to straighten out "our" family groups. Let me know what you have on Alfred and Lewis from your research. Including spouses and children. Maybe that will help us piece together this puzzle.
Let's keep trying.
