I don't know if the following would be of any help but...In 1784 a John Angell died in Stockwell Surrey and left all his estate to any descendant in the male line from his great-great grandfather. There were numerous court cases involving people claiming the money. One case heard at Croydon July 24 1793, before Sir Francis Buller and a special jury involved Mr. John Angell of Dublin. Evidence was collected and witnesses brought from Wales, Dorsetshire, the Island of Wight, Ireland but, after a hearing which lasted 4 hours and a critical investigation of the Register book of Winterburn and cross examination of the curate and two other witnesses, the plaintiff was non suited, Sir Justice Buller telling Serjeant Bond the Leading Counsel, that the plaintiff had not a foot to stand upon, even supported by his own register, although it had been evidently mutilated and garbled.
