Wm. Andrus b abt 1814 NY lived in Syracuse

I searched through the messages on this sight and didn't find any direct link to the Andrus I am searching for. I am searching for information about William Andrus, born about 1814 in NY, father's and mother's birthplace Massachusetts. I found William in the 1880 census in Syracuse, widowed, age 66, night watchman. Living with him were Elnor (35), Maye (18), Sarah (13), Frank (29) and his wife Lizzie (28), William (9), Lula (7), and Frank (1). I believe May is my g grandmother and was raised by the Andrus family. I am trying to find her birth mother, and think it may be Mary Hoffman. I'm looking for a relationship between the Andrus family and Augusta Hoffman of Iowa. "Elnor" is known as Nellie.
