Dear Bob,
I read with interest the queries you posted on the ANDRUS Message Board at GenForum, wanting info on Elon and Loren Andrus of Washington, Michigan. Are you a descendant to this ANDRUS line or just researching for the Washington Historical Society??
My gr gr gr grandmother was SARAH ANDRUS - born 29-Oct- 1767 - place unknown but some of the info you mentioned having on Elon and Loren ANDRUS rings some bells with me due to research I have done on my Andrus line.
I will try to make a long story as short as possible......
MY Sarah Andrus married my gr gr gr grandfather, John TOMS,
in Stillwater, now Saratoga Co., New York on 08-Jan-1786 and were members of the Stillwater Baptist church. In tracing this TOMS family migration I find that two of their eleven children were listed on 1850 census as born in Bennington Co, Vermont in 1800 and 1802. From there the family moved to Schroon Lake, Essex County, New York until about 1817 when they moved to Wheatland, then Genesee Co. now Monroe Co., NY. The child that was born in Bennington Co, Vermont was named Abriam TOMS who married Mary Davenport c 1825 in Wheatland and around 1835/36 he moved his family to Ohio until about 1842 or so when they then moved to Kent County, Michigan. Abriam TOMS was a Baptist Minister (called A. B. TOMS) and I have found he and Mary are buried in the Englishville Cemetery in Alpine Township, Kent Co. Their children were - Oscar M., A. W., Sarah V., Joseph E., Mary E., Electa P.and Abriam L. TOMS.
In researching the Englishville Cemetery records I found
several ANDRUS 's also buried there. Plus, I also found the name of an ELON TOMS buried in the cemetery who may be a grandson to Rev. A.B. TOMS.
Well, I have said quite a lot to get to my point which is - that I believe that my TOMS are related to the Elon and Loren ANDRUS you are researching. And, I am interested in any info you can provide me, especially on Elon ANDRUS.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks, Judy Mills Boie -Minnesota
