This is an interesting post, People have the hardest time with my last name. 9 times out of 10 it comes out Andrews when people try to pronounce it. I come from the Andrus family from Saratoga County, New YorK, I have just started tracing my roots and have only made it back to Floyd E. Andrus born in 1896. My family has always pronounced it And-Rus, just as it is spelled. It does seem that we came from Andrews but I have not made a connection yet! I was told by my grandfather Floyd E. Andrus Jr. that the spelling was changed by the millitary at one point because there were too many Andrews, he could have been pulling my leg as he often did.
