The Daily Record Sept. 29, 1950 ( Stroudsburg, PA ) Mrs. Eliza Andress, 97, One of Oldest Residents of Community, Dies Here Mrs. Eliza Ann Andress, one of the oldest residents of the community, died at the home of her grandson, Edward R. Lawson and wife, of 517 Scott St., Stroudsburg, at 8:30 a.m. yesterday. Mrs. Andress was 97 years of age September 2. Mrs. Andress was a native of Stroud township, daughter of the late William and Mary Ann Snyder and lived in Stroudsburg for 75 years 30 of which with her grandson, Mr. Lawson. She was the widow of Hampton Andress. She was in good health up to about three years ago she suffered a fractured pelvis. However, she retained her sense of humor and enjoyed crocheting and doing things for others. She was of the Lutheran faith. Mrs. Andress is survived by three sons, William S., Stroudsburg; Clarence L., Esat Stroudsburg; and Roy L. Andress, Lehighton; a brother, Samuel A. Snyder, Ashley; nine grandsons, eight granddaughters, 32 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. Funeral serviced will be conducted at the Dunkleberger and Westbrook funeral home, Stroudsburg, Monday at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Dr. P.N. Wohlsen, pastor of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran church, will officiate, assisted by Rev. Francis C. Thomas, of the Methodist church. Burial will be in Stroudsburg cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday after 7 p.m. ------------------------ The Pocono Record Feb. 19, 1969 ( Stroudsburg, PA ) William Andress dies at 85 in E.S. home East Stroudsburg -- William S. Andress, 85, died Tuesday in his home at 135 Center St., East Stroudsburg. Born in Stroudsburg, he was a son of the late Hampton and Eliza Snyder Andress. Mr. Andress had been employed until he retired, by the Pontiac Garage, Stroudsburg. He had also worked at the Indian Queen and Penn. Stroud Hotels, Stroudsburg. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Stroudsburg, and was a former member of the church’s council. Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Clarence Pugh, Minisink Hills; Mrs. Forrest Snyder, East Stroudsburg R.D. 2; Mrs. Ralph Scheirer, East Stroudsburg, and Mrs. Elwood Batchler and Mrs. Lawrence Hillard, both of Delaware Water Gap. Also, four sons, Joseph H. Andress, Pensacola, Fla.; Richard W. Andress, Stroudsburg; John D. Andress, Asbury Park, N.J.; and Albert R. Andress, East Stroudsburg; 22 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Roy Andress, Palmerton, and Clarence Andress, East Stroudsburg. Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Daniel G. Warner Funeral Home with William C. Leopold and Rev. William F. Wunder officiating. Burial will be in Stroudsburg Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home Thursday after 7 p.m. ------------------------ The Daily Record Aug. 26, 1955 ( Stroudsburg, PA ) Mrs. Andress dies at 74 Mrs. Celesta S. Andress, 74, wife of William Andress, 503 Thomas St., died at 8:30 p.m. yesterday in General Hospital. She had been ill the past three months. She was a daughter of the late Oliver and Maria Siptroth, Jackson Township and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Stroudsburg. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Dunkleberger and Westbrook funeral home with Rev. P.N. Wohlsen officiating. Interment will be made in Stroudsburg Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday after 7 p.m. Survivors Listed Surviving are her husband; five daughters, Mrs. Clarence Pugh, Mrs. Ralph Schierer and Mrs. Forrest Snyder, all of East Stroudsburg; Mrs. Elwood Batchler and Mrs. Lawrence Hilliard of Stroudsburg; four sons, Richard, John, and Albert, all of Stroudsburg and Joseph of East Stroudsburg; Two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Weber, Stroudsburg and Mrs. Clarence Andress, East Stroudsburg; three brothers, Earl Siptroth, and Irvin Siptroth, East Stroudsburg and Enos Siptroth, Emmaus; 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
