Thanks for the post and the tip, Robert.

I ran your comments past my dad, and he recalled that his late uncle (coincidentally named Robert Andres) used to say that he thought the family was originally from Bavaria. Everyone always pooh-poohed him, saying the family was from Alsace.

Maybe Uncle Rob knew more than the rest of us... I'll follow through on the families from Hansviller and Ormersviller... those sound like promising leads.

Oddly enough, I have a friend in Phoenix, AZ named Ralph Andres. He's originally from Niagara Falls, NY, and he knows that his family came from Alsace. I will share your info with him as well.

And I am curious: are you here in the US, or are you still in France?
