METTA THERESE JOHANNA ANDREE daughter of this marriage, was born April 13, 1865, Wedderwarden, Germany. Married HEINRICK WILLMS September 21, 1883. She died September 12, 1930 Her Godmother was Johanna Dorathy Andree (Doscher), Helen V. Smith's (Porter) Great Grandmother. Husband HEINRICK WILLMS born August 9, 1859, Briedewarden, Germany, son of Cornelius Wihelm Willms and Sophie Margarette Otten. Heinrick was a farmer. He died August 2, 1905, Wedderwarden, Germany. At the age of 19, she left Germany by ship enroute for USA. Arrived Charleston, SC, USA in 1911. Married September 11, 1918 Charleston, SC, USA. Died May 23, 1925, Charleston,South Carolina, USA. Buried Bethany Cemetary. Husband JOHN EDWARD PORTER Born may 23, 1898, Charleston, South Carolina, USA NOTE WORLD WAR I ENDED NOVEMBER 11, 1918 He died August 20, 1957 (day before DeAnn E. Lepke(Porter) was born. Buried in Bethany Cemetary. Occupation Grocery store owner and salesman. He drove a fuel truck toward the end of his life (see newspaper clip) and was badly burned in a fire. Not much formal schooling, attended Trade Schools in Charleston. As a teen , grew up in Ashley Forest, across the James River. Joined the US Naval Reserve in 1937. Served in the US Navy, February 1938- May 1941. Went to work at the Charleston Navy Base Power Plant. America enters World War II. He entered the US Coast Guard and served December 1941-November 1945, Rating as Chief Machinists Mate. Occupation: Power Plant Engineer (31-years), Charleston Naval Shipyard, Charleston, South Carolina, USA. Medically retired due to "borderline" diabetes- Age 55 yrs old. After about 6-months, no sign of diabetes. Residence: # 7-31st Ave, Isle of Palms, South Carolina, USA,from 1948 until his death March 26, 1999. Liked boating and camping. Restored an old wooden boat that our family enjoyed many times on the back creeks and the Intercoastal Waterway. Liked going out to Morgan Creek- site of old Boy Scout camp for Troop 34. Smoked Swisher Sweet cigars and pipes filled with Sir Walter Raleigh tobacco. Died March 26, 1999. 1st Wife Married neighborhood girlfriend, ended in divorce. Child Kendra Porter (Seidle) Born 1942 2d Wife HELEN VERONICA SMITH (PORTER) Born January 1, 1922, Charleston, South Carolina, USA. Daughter of Julian Eugene Smith, Sr. and Helen Elizabeth Kulinski(Smith). Lived on Maple Street in Charleston, South Carolina. Graduated from Bishop England High School, 1939, Charleston, South Carolina, USA.. Married: February 21, 1948,Savannah, Georgia, USA. Occupation: Wife, Homemaker , and Mother. Died: July 25, 1984, at home, #7-31st Ave, Isle of Palms, South Carolina, USA from a Pulmonary Embolism (blood clot in leg). She was only 62 years old. Buried next to John Henry Porter, Sr., Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, USA. Children 1. JOHN HENRY PORTER, JR. 2. ROBERT ALLEN PORTER 3.
