Hello: I have data on a Franz Andra' who owned a Porcelain factory in the Meissen area, later he would ask his son Johann Andra, who had been wounded in the battle of Dresden to come and run the factory for him, which he did. Johann m. and had three children, the third child was Johann Christian Taraugott Andra. He became a burner in the Meissen Porcelain Factory. He and his wife had eleven children. The tenth was a Franz Julius Andra later changed his name to Andrae and sailed for America in about 1855. He ended up in Milwaukee, WI and there established the Andrae Electric Co. My Andrae family came from Griefenberg, Pomerania, Prussia and came to Milwaukee in 1854. - I have tried to verify the fact that Franz Andra' in the middle or late 1700's owned a Porcelain Factory in the Meissen area. I have written to the present Meissen Porcelain Factory to find out evidence of this history but they have not responded. I do know that the first Porcelain factory was in an old Fortress or Castle and was very small, in 1861 the new present Porcelain factory may have changed the name of the town from Meissen to Albrechtburg, after the former King of Poland who jealously guarded the secret of the hard porcelain formula. Supposedly any one who knew this formula besides the King was put to death, I have not verified this as yet, but in writing a lady from Meissen, she said this is the story. I assume maybe the early Andra families were put to death. I do know that Johann Christian Taraguott Andra was the son of the second mentioned Andra and he was employed as a burner in the Meissen factory, but in looking at all of his eleven children, none of them ever had the privilege of working or worked in the factory. Any help will be appreciated. My name is Max Andrae and I am posting this under my wife's name Patricia Andrae as she has already logged into this site. Thank you. Andrae27@yahoo.com
