In our annual Nov. 2 list of deceased family and relatives, I normally read the name Panfilo Andrade. The Andrades in General Santos City come from Inopacan, Leyte. There is a tradition maintained by the old folks that they are related to Taviel de Andrade, but they left no record, only memories of young Andrades migrating to Leyte with some degree of affluence. The oldest folks that I spoke with before their demise explained that they did not have any close bond with their parents because of some strict family tradition of children not mingling with adults. They all spoke of a European grandparent who had red hair and blue eyes, and who never mingled nor spoke a word with local neighbors. I would like to know if there is any known offspring or relative of Jose or Luis Taviel de Andrade in the Philippines.
