Andrade in the Spanish-American War

Hi all:

I have recently been given information that my GreatUncle (my grandmother's brother) Jacintho (Jesse) ANDRADE (OR ANDRADE-ALMEIDA) was in the Spanish-American War as a member of the US Navy...he subsequently earned his US citizenship and was allowed to bring his mother and four sisters to this country (Newport, RI) in 1899...the family seems to use Andrade and Almeida interchangeably so it is unclear which is supposed to be first...:-(

Anyway, my question is does anyone have any idea of how I could verify this information????

Thanks for whatever help you can offer......:-)

Elizabeth
