Andrades of Galicia - 1200s+
Hi, everyone.I trace my line from the Andrades of Madeira Island, Portugal, all the way back to Freire de Andrade in Galicia, Spain.I thought I had it all figured out until I came across a few more Portuguese and Spanish books, which all seem to conflict with each other.Maybe the different books only mention certain children, while other books mention other children.Conflict or ommission??
Maybe it's best to start from the beginning....
From Blasones y linajes de Galicia, by Jose Santiago Crespo, 1997, vol. 1:
1st generation:
The earliest Andrade I've found is Juan Freire, married Maria Alfonsa, living around 1270.According to this book they had a son:
2nd generation:
Roi Freire de Andrade, married Ines Gonzalvez de Souto Mayor.
According to "Genealogia da Familia Andrada" (by Luiz Peter Clode, 1977), Rui Freire de Andrade had a brother - Joao Freire de Andrade. But no father is given.(I don't know much Portuguese, so I could be missing something!)These 2 brothers are also mentioned in "Nobiliario genealógico das familias que passárão a viver a esta Ilha d'a Madeira depois do seu descobrimento, que foi no ano de 1.420" (by Henrique Noroaha, 1700s?).In theory, I trace my lines through both of these brothers, but the waters get much murkier in later generations.
I would greatly appreciate anyone beginning what may be a long, complicated, but hopefully beneficial discussion of the early Andrades in Galicia.I have taken information from 7 sources, all of them in Spanish or Portuguese, so I may have misunderstood some things.
Is anyone up for the challenge?I look forward to straightening out the contradictions.
Michelle
