I have some information regarding the Andes of Timberville, VA that was passed down from a family historian lost long ago.The history has some holes in it (missing some dates), but I thought some may be interested.Accordingly, our family left Alsace-Lorraine and it was a few years prior to the Revolutionary War that Andrew and John Andes settled in the Shenandoah Valley (I actually have one of the boarding passes from the Friendship). They acquired the deed to the family estate in 1773 signed by Lord Dunmore with the seal of King George III.
Andrew married Elizabeth Beard and the two had 11 children. He purchased 50 more acres signed by James Monroe and then more land in 1803 signed by John Page. The estate was 867 acres. The estate was surveyed by Reuben Walton in 1812 and divided into three tracts. His son William (my direct descendant) was given the part with the buildings on it.
William's son Noah is my great-great grandfather and was the family member who gave the Church of the Brethern the land for Mt. Olivet and the cemetery. The family home that William received is still there, but no longer in the family sadly. However, many descendants have homes on the family land as it was pieced off through the generations.
I have much more information on William's family, but you seemed more interested in history further passed. However, if any one is interested, please let me know
