Trust me, I'm with you on this Larry... It can get frustrating, I'm working on the Mullins side of my tree at the moment and I am passed the early 1600s-- very little written documents to go on--- I am pulling my hair out with it too.
Anyway---
Here is a link to a reputable source for the James Anderton/ Caroline Fortner. It was updated 10-14-2004, so the email info should be correct if you have questions. Their children's names lists both a "John" and a "Wiley"... (imagine that! I guess the family was partial to certain names in that day...heh heh)
In any case, they hail from Blout Co. ALabama
