I would like to discuss the Amos Anderson family in Abbeville, SC with you. I have had some professional research done trying to identify the parents of Amos Anderson jr. I am a direct descendent of Amos Anderson of Randolph Co., IL and believe that Jane and Amos Anderson Sr. of Abbeville, SC are his parents, not Mary and Joseph Anderson of Virginia.
I've found several instances in which Joseph Jay and Amos Anderson are associated. The earliest is in December 1782 where Amos Anderson Sr. and Joseph Jay wittnessed a land sale between George Swilling and Mary Gibson. Then the Joseph Jay Estate sale in 1806, that you mentioned. In Randolph Co., IL in 1820 Amos Anderson and Joseph Jay live in the same Twp. and a few years later they purchase some land together. Also, Amos Anderson's first male child is named Berry Anderson.
I believed that the females attributed to Mary and Joseph Anderson in Randolph Co., IL are daughters of Jane and Amos Anderson Sr., and sisters of Amos Anderson jr., my 4th ggrandfather. Amos Anderson jr. also has a daughter named Jane, and three of the sisters have sons named Amos but none named Joseph. In addition, In 1790 and 1800 census' the Amos Anderson's are living close to Lively's and Coddles (Caudle) who married Mary, Catharine, and Marjery Anderson in SC and then came to Randolph Co., IL. The case for Amos Anderson being the son of Joseph Anderson from Virginia doesn't make sense to me. You're right there's a lot of smoke. We may not find the fire but who knows. Hope to hear from you soon.
FYI It looks like my email address is incorrect and I can't seem to correct it.
