Just a note. I've seen on the web where Brooks Anderson, brother of my great-great-grandmother, Matilda "Tillie" Anderson, was married to Margaret Louise Bowling. I've been unable to make contact with the different people who've posted that. Soooo...I recently came upon the marriage record. Only it lists her at Margaret (looks almost like Marget) Boolling. I wonder whether that wasn't an Irish (or some other British) pronunciation of Bowling that led to that spelling. Brooks Anderson To Margaret Boolling State of Missouri, county of Ste Genevieve M This is to certify that on the 23 day of December A.D. 1877, Mr. Brooks Anderson and Miss Margaret (looks like “Marget”) Boolling were by me united in marriage according to the laws of God and of the State of Missouri at St. Genevieve County, Missouri. James Counts Ministery [sic] of the gospel As a side note, Brooks Anderson is listed in the 1880 census as having “dropsy.” Per a land patent entry, “Margaret A. Anderson” was already widowed by “Brooks N. Anderson” by 15 February 1884. It is said Margaret later remarried. Brooks and Margaret had a child named Martha C. Anderson. His mother Tillie married four times, believe it or not: to Charles Quinlin (probably Quinlan); Joseph Alonzo Shoults; Pierre "Pete" Louis Clerc; and Joseph J. Hamshire. Tillie and Joe had a son they named Steven Anderson Shoults and another they named Calvin Brooks Shoults. Anyway, just wanted to share this tidbit of news. Notify Administrator about this message?
