Ethel Riggs Anderson, 94, passed away Tuesday, June 9,
2009, at Holston Manor, Kingsport, Sullivan Co TN, following
a brief illness.
She was born January 20, 1915, in Wise Co VA, to Edwin and
Virgie Melissa Riggs. She moved to Clintwood, Virginia as
a teenager and attended Dickenson Memorial High School.
Preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers;
two half-brothers; two half-sisters; her son, Dean
Anderson; and her husband, Curt Anderson (2004).
She was a member of Clintwood United Methodist Church for
many years. She moved to Asbury Place, Baysmont Campus, in
April 2004.
Survivors are her daughter, Barbara Hurst of Kingsport, TN;
her son Dale Anderson and his wife, Corina, of Louisville,
KY; six grandchildren, Laura Lee Hurst West and her
husband, the Reverend Doctor Phillip West, Paula Hurst
Bernard of Church Hill, TN, Mark Hurst and his wife Sharon
of Redwood, NY, and Blake Hurst and Jodie of Kingsport,
TN, Kevin Anderson, and Leanne Anderson Miller and her
husband Donnie all of Louisville, KY; ten great-grand-
children, Ashley West, Alexis West, and Andrew West, Shawn
Anderson and Cody Anderson, Dusty Litton and Ronnie
Litton, Payton and Carson Miller and Greyson Hurst; one
great-great grandson, Jayden Anderson; three half-sisters;
two half-brothers; several nieces and nephews; and a dear
sister-in-law, Dixie Anderson.
Visitation will be Friday, June 12, 2009, at 11 a.m., at
the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor John Price at
12 p.m.
Burial will be at the Phipps Memorial Cemetery next to her
husband and son. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are Bud Steffey, Calvin Brooks, John
Dotson, and Ben Sutherland.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial gifts to the
Clintwood United Methodist Church.
