Hi Andy, Thanks for posting your response. Most of the information on both of these reports is correct however, there is no record of him in Jefferson Cty. Civil War Records. There is also the question of why enlist at Mansfield, just East of Marion City, not in Jefferson County. For that matter he is not found in Hancock Cty. either until after the war where he is located as a farm hand on the Jos.Ansbergers farm (1870 Fed Census), neighboring the Kistler family farm where he later met Clarinda Jane. There is a lot of speculation about the place of birth but no record that I have located yet. Thanks again for your information. Michael Koch
