My cousins, I too am a well-documented double descendant of Bailey Anderson Sr (1754-1840) and you probably aren't going to like what I am about to say one bit...but here goes!
Just in these emails re "Anderson in Indiana Help!!!!!!", there is so much UNPROVEN information that just gets passed on and on and has been for many, many years with seemingly no one attempting to get DOCUMENTATION on the UNDOCUMENTED info they receive. Why not get "together" and focus your attention on PROVING or DISPROVING some of this as these "facts" are at the very core of our Anderson ancestry?
Examples: (1) who can provide DOCUMENTARY PROOF our ancestor was Mary WYATT...Mary is proven but I haven't seen one single legal document with her SURNAME or a middle name on it (2) Just because William and Samuel Anderson lived in Warren Co Ky when "Bailey Sr" did DOES NOT make them his SONS...where is the DOCUMENTARY PROOF that either of them is? (3) "Bailey Sr"'s son, Pinkney was NOT Charles Pinkney and he died in 1835 -- check it out in Indiana LEGAL records, it's all there (4) our ancestor John Anderson DID NOT die in Camden, SC 1781 --- carefully read the "accepted" Rev War file that is supposed to be just his and you can clearly see that our John's file has been combined with those of a different father and son John Anderson Sr and Jr of NORTH CAROLINA (5) further proof of (4) can be found in the Rev War Bounty Land Grants awarded in Georgia to posthumously RW soldiers (6) we all know that Rev James Anderson/Suit Garland had a son JOHN but who can provide a LEGAL DOCUMENT which specifically identifies their John as OUR John? The church historian at Rev James' old church in Lancaster Co, Pa doesn't believe OUR John was the son of James & Suit either....check it out (7) also, Elizabeth Boone who married Pinkney Anderson was NOT the sister of Pinkney's brother in law Ratliff Boone - the obituary of Elizabeth [Boone] Burns clearly identifies HER as Ratliff's SISTER (8) oh, there is more - so much, much more!!!
Now just a couple of FYI: (1) the 1820 census of Yazoo Co, Ms lists a Bailey Anderson I have never been able to identify - considering the "times" and the place his line COULD be the one who married Choctaw (2) the Bailey Anderson in Marengo Co, Alabama is the son of William Anderson (William's own Bible record) son of John Anderson and Sarah [Carney]. Some of the descendants of this Bailey's brother Albert Gallatin Anderson Sr did migrate to Smith Co, Ms, but if there is Choctaw in this line it is from a spousal lineage. (3) the town Anderson, Indiana, is NOT named for "Bailey Sr" but Anderson TOWNSHIP in Warrick County was - there is an important difference (4) "Bailey Sr" himself did not leave Indiana until 1818 (his OWN words), however, his sons Wyatt, Bailey Jr, and Joshua are documented in 1816-17 as living at Pecan Gap - an early trading settlement now on the Ok-Tx border. (5) John Anderson was NOT the 1st Alcalde of San Augustine Co, Tx (actually it was San Augustine DISTRICT - there's a difference) - you will find this LEGAL documentation in the R.B.Blake Collection at the Steen Library, Stephen F. Austin Univ, Nacogdoches, Tx as well as many, many copies of ORIGINAL legal Anderson documents...
Cousins, I know we ALL are proud of our Anderson ancestors as well we should be...BUT, how would you feel if 100 years from now you somehow gained the knowledge that YOUR CHILDREN were being written down in HISTORY as belonging to ANOTHER mother or father? Or that YOU were written in HISTORY as the child of some STRANGER you never knew in life? I don't want someone else's kinfolk - I want MY OWN!
Just think about what I've said and don't get too angry at me. I do not profess to "know everything" but I have uncovered enough garbage in our ancestry passed on and on and on as "truth" to be just thoroughly disgusted!
I am no longer spending my time sharing what I have proven or disproven about our Anderson's because the truth is, it just doesn't do any good and with the common use of the Internet and email, there is just no way to correct all the errors or reach all of our cousins who believe every word they so eagerly read about "their ancestry".
So please, believe what you want of what I have written but don't email me as I won't answer.
One last thing, I have Mary Neal Bryant's book on her Anderson lineage and I personally believe it to be one of the best efforts in presenting a well-documented representation of her lineage as I ever seen. The "key-word" here is "DOCUMENTED".
Your rebellious cousin, Gena
