William Anders married Priscilla VanSickle in Sussex County, New Jersey, 27 June 1811. In 1820 they may have been living in Roxbury Twp., Morris County, NJ. William died in 1825. Priscilla was born 18 Feb. 1786. In 1830 she and two daughters were living in Independence Twp., Warren County, NJ. In 1836 she, with three children, moved to Jerseyville, Ancaster Twp., Wentworth County, Ontario, Canada. She died 23 Dec. 1862 and was buried in Stenabaugh Cemetery in Ancaster Township. William and Priscilla had six children:
1. Margaret Anders was born circa 1812 and died 20 Jan. 1878. She married William George Miller. They lived in Ancaster Township. They had the following children: (I) Sarah Ann, born circa 1834; (II) Amanda Eliza, born 13 March 1838; (III) Ira, born 18 Aug. 1839; (IV) Catherine, born circa 1841; (V) Samuel A., born circa 1843; (VI) Lewis, born circa 1843; (VII) Elsie Ann, born circa 1846; (VIII) Pricilla, born circa 1846; (IX) Adelaide; born circa 1848; (X) Amos B., born 13 March 1853.
2. Jacob Anders was born circa 1815 and he died 12 July 1894. He married Amy Stenabaugh. They lived in Oakland Township, Brant County, Ontario. She was the daughter of John Stenabaugh and Mary Miller. Amy was born 20 March 1818 and she died 05 June 1901. They were buried in Oakland Cemetery. They had the following children: (I) George W. Anders, died 20 Sept. 1845; (II) William Anders, born circa 1841, married Catherine Drake. (III) Elsie Anders, born circa 1843, married Lewis Fonger; (IV) Hampton Anders, born circa 1846, married Clarissa Secord; (V) Lewis (Lues) Anders, born circa 1849; (VI) Milton Anders, born circa 1853, married Caroline Ellen Proper; (VII) North Anders, born 25 Sept. 1858, married Elizabeth Ann Proper.
3. Elsie Ann Anders was born circa 1815 and she died, unmarried, 08 Oct. 1896. She was buried in Oakland Cemetery.
4. Morris Anders was born 11 Jan. 1819 and he died in 1902. He married three times: (1) Sophia Howell 13 Oct. 1841; (2) Martha Misener; (3) Mary A. Steele 15 Sept. 1873. They lived in Brantford, Brant County. Morris and Sophia had the following children: (I) Zylphia Anders, born 05 Sept. 1844, married John Y. Brown; (II) Infant daughter, buried with her mother in Jerseyville Cemetery. Morris and Martha had the following children: (III) Loucetta Anders, born 11 May 1851, married Robert Biggar; (IV) Pricilla Anders, born 22 Dec. 1858, married (1) Lewis Doeringer and (2) Maxwell A. Craig; (V) Maggie Anders, born circa 1862, married Charles Steedman; (VI) William Robert Anders, born 18 Feb. 1865, married Bertha Elizabeth Fonger.
5. Sarah Anders was born circa 1821. Perhaps remained in New Jersey.
6. Amanda Anders was born circa 1823. Perhaps remained in New Jersey.
William Anders may have been a brother or first cousin to Jacob Andress of Beattystown. William, if he were about the same age of his wife, would have been born in the late 1770’s or 80’s. Jacob was probably born a little earlier, perhaps in the 1760’s. Two of Jacob’s sons, Joseph and Peter, were recorded on the 1830 and 40 censuses as “Anders.” William, if it is in fact him, is recorded on the 1820 census of Roxbury Twp., as “Andress.” Besides the surname and the proximity of residences in New Jersey, there’s another clue that leads me to believe that the two families are related. William Anders had a grandson named Hampton, and Jacob Andress had a son, a grandson, and two great-grandsons named the same. Uncovering the lineage of either family would probably open the door to the other. For more information about the Andress family please refer to my postings on the Andress forum.
