Salut Roger,
The Erméline Mirault that I am trying to find is the one described in "Assomption Sash" by Marius Barbeau. As his original work was published about 1946, I can only say that Erméline was alive and unmarried about that time. She is listed as one of the few weavers who could still practice the art of finger weaving ceintures fléchées.
I am working on a project that will trace the history of the modern Métis or Manitoba Sash, which is based on the Hudson Bay Company trade sashes, which in turn were based on the l'Assomption sashes made for the North West Company Voyageures who were recruited out of L'Assomption Parish and surrounding areas. My reason for finding Erméline is to show what I believe is a direct link (of the sash) back to Acadia, specifically through the Mireault family and from there the influence of the Mi'kmaq. While the Mirault family is recognized as a whole group for being a major supplier of ceintures for the Montreal market fifty years earlier - that is circa 1890, Erméline is my key individual at this point. (DESROSIERS, LORD, VENNE, MELANÇON, LÉGARÉ, GAUDET, JOHNSON, BOURGEOIS, FOREST, LÉVEILLÉ, and LAJOIE, were also families that were involved in this enterprise, and many of these you will of course recognise as being associated with the family since the time of François Amirault dit Tourangeau.)
Merci, a bientôt. -Brian.
