Obit: John T. Amick
John T. Amick
John Amick passed away peacefully after a long illness in Columbia, S.C. on Dec. 22, 2011. He was born April 8, 1929 to Nathan and Florence Amick of the Kimesville community. He was the baby brother of Daniel, David, and George.
He was a true "Great Depression child" with the hard scrabble farm life of that era. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. He made his life with his wife Betty in the Burlington area for many years. Always quick to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, he never met a stranger. He loved his family and friends, a strong cup of coffee, all animals, a shared joke with a friend, the look on your face after a tall tale, and a good poker game. He was never lacking an opinion on any topic. Quick to offer a comment with a smile, he loved a heated debate only to have you laugh later on.
He leaves behind his son Barry Amick, daughter-in-law Damita; grandsons Peyton and Parker of Oak Ridge, N.C.; former wife Betty Amick of Burlington; brother Dan Amick of Newport, N.C.; several nephews and nieces; and many friends. Services will be private. In memoriam donations may be made to the ASPCA, The Myastenia Gravis Foundation, or The Alzheimer's Foundation.
